Wind more divisive than the beach

That’s what Fred Fenlon, who represents the town on Cape Cod Assembly of Delegates, thinks. He told selectmen Monday that they should rethink the direction they are going with the proposed wind turbine project, but Selectwoman Linda Burt, chairman of the board, said they are moving ahead with it. “We are taking it to town meeting for a vote,” she said. “It’s for the citizens to decide. That’s the only fair way to do it.”

“This will be more divisive than the beach issue,” Fenlon told her, as Paul Lothrop, an opponent of the wind project, yelled out “Yes!”

A resident jumped up and urged Burt to restore order. “We have a couple of jerks talking out of hand,” he said. Lothrop demanded that the man identify himself. “Kevin,” the man said. “What’s your last name,” Lothrup asked, but the man did not respond. Burt moved the discussion on to the next item on the agenda, but not before telling Fenlon: “Fred, I’m very surprised at you.” Fenlon responded that “the town is going to be the ultimate loser” if the wind project moves forward.
